We believe that an essential part of every exam should focus on our patient's eye health. That is why when you visit our office we will check your eye pressure, check for color deficiency, and do a slit lamp evaluation in addition to the refractive eye exam. We want to make sure that all of our patients receive the most thorough care and detailed evaluations of any medical conditions or changes in your vision.
OCT Scans - Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test. OCT uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. With OCT, your doctor can see each of the retina's distinctive layers. This allows your doctor to map
and measure their thickness. These measurements help with diagnosis and also provide treatment guidance for glaucoma and diseases related to the retina. These retinal diseases include age related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy.

Macula Optical Pigment Density (MPOD)
Low macular pigmentation is an indicator of poor visual performance and possible macular degeneration. The test will allow Dr. Ruan to determine if you are at risk for losing central vision or macular degeneration. If at risk, Dr. Ruan can suggest some easy treatments to help reverse, slow, or prevent the damage. It takes only two to three minutes of your time and is recommended for all of our patients over 21.

Humphrey Visual Field
While recommended for all of our patients, this test is especially crucial for those who have concerns about glaucoma, see spots or floaters, have a sudden decrease in their vision, or experience inexplicable migraines. This test will highlight any blind spots in your vision that could indicate optic nerve disorders, brain tumors or other neurological defects. |
Digital Retinal Photography
This non-invasive imaging technology allows Dr. Ruan to evaluate if there has been any abnormalities or changes to your optic nerve, retina, blood vessels, or macula. It is a great detection and management tool for potential sight threatening diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension and macular degeneration. |
